Commercial

In addition to the standard building requirement of providing appropriate sound insulation and quiet mechanical services, Commercial developments often contain a number of acoustically complex areas, for example, AV conference rooms, meeting rooms, auditoria etc. These areas can have very exacting acoustic requirements for speech privacy, speech intelligibility and acoustic absorption/diffusion. Cass Allen are experienced in assessing such spaces using both statistical models of sound propagation and also state of the art 3D computer simulation.

Office Fit Out and Refurbishment – Bishopsgate, Central London

Client: Area Sq

Scope: Cass Allen advised the project team on this office fit out and refurbishment project on Bishopsgate. Particular areas of concern were speech privacy around the many sensitive meeting and conference rooms, noise levels inside the open plan areas and the acoustic insulation between adjacent offices.

Auditorium & Office Fit Out – Central London

Client: Cushman & Wakefield
Main Contractors: Workstation UK

Scope: To advise on the acoustic design of a large office fit out for an American trading firm, including an auditorium, trading floors and meeting/conference rooms. Subsequent work at the same site included assisting in achieving planning permission for new items of rooftop plant.

Office Fit Out and Refurbishment – 123-155 Buckingham Palace Road

Client: PA Consulting
Project Managers: Cushman & Wakefield
Planning Consultants: Cushman & Wakefield
Mechanical Consultants: Meinhardt

Scope: Cass Allen advised the project team on this extensive office fit out and rooftop plant replacement project. This required detailed negotiations with Westminster Council regarding acoustic criteria together with 3D noise modelling and acoustic design to develop and demonstrate a compliant scheme. Our association with this building has now extended over many years and involved a number of fit outs and refurbishments together with investigations into the acoustic implications of various re-fit proposals inside both leased and public spaces inside the building.

Speech Privacy Design – Basingstoke

Client: Hampshire County Council
Architects: HCC Property Services
Contractors: Morgan Sindall

Scope: We advised Hampshire County Council and Morgan Sindall on achieving suitable standards of speech privacy as part of their move into new offices in Basingstoke. The offices house the family support unit and conference suites where confidentiality is critical. Our involvement centred around design flanking path treatments for the partitions and ensured that suitable ambient noise levels were achieved (using sound masking) so that the necessary level of confidentiality is obtained.

Large-Scale Store Expansion

Client: Wing Yip
Architects: David Futter Associates

Scope: Cass Allen carried out a noise impact assessment for this proposed large store expansion for Wing Yip, supplier of Oriental ingredients. Key matters to be assessed were noise from fixed mechanical plant and noise from car park and deliveries areas.

A 3D noise model of the development was prepared to calculate noise emissions from the site with and without the expansion. The modelling showed that noise levels at surrounding receptors would actually reduce due to the intelligent design of the expansion. This project showcased the benefits that 3D noise modelling can bring to projects and planning applications

New Office Block – Central London

Client: Concentra
Architects: Formation Architects
M&E Consultants: Peter Deer Associates

Scope: Design and specification of facade and inter-floor insulation, services noise, reverberation. The photograph shows final commissioning tests in progress, which demonstrated full compliance with the project criteria.

Office Refurbishment – Central London

Client: Cushman & Wakefield
Planning Consultants: Cushman & Wakefield
M&E Consultants: BCHF

Scope: Refurbishment of offices and rooftop plant for a large data management company. Our role included negotiation of planning conditions with the Council and submission of noise impact assessment. Noise surveys and specification of noise levels for new plant. Assessment and recommendations regarding inter-area acoustic insulation, speech privacy in meeting rooms areas, open-plan office acoustics, internal mechanical plant noise and crosstalk. The photos show initial surveys in progress to assess the quality of pre-refurbishment acoustics.

Office Refurbishment – Bishopsgate, Central London

Client: Allen & Overy
Architects: Shor Architects
