Electroacoustics and Music Recording

An understanding of acoustics and how sound behaves inside rooms is essential to high quality music recording. We have built upon our deep understanding of acoustics to provide professional recording services in addition to the auditoria and studio design services more typically associated with acoustic consultancy firms.

Through long-term associations with various recording labels and artist management companies we have been fortunate to work with some of the world’s finest musicians in acoustically and architecturally beautiful buildings. Venues have included Wigmore Hall (London), Salle Gaveau (Paris), Tonhalle (Dusseldorf), Snape Maltings (Suffolk), Symphony Hall (Ankara), Kings’ College Chapel (Cambridge) and numerous Concert Halls and studios around the UK. Cass Allen’s music recording work is carried out under the trading name ‘Opera Omnia Productions‘.

Westminster Abbey Kristallnacht Memorial

Client: Westminster Abbey
Producer/Engineer: Patrick Allen

Cass Allen were commissioned to use their performing arts recording expertise at Westminster Abbey, capturing the Kristallnacht 75th Anniversary Service.

Kristallnacht, or the Night of Broken Glass, is the name given to what was, in effect, the start of the Holocaust. On this night a series of attacks were carried out against the Jews by the Nazi regime.  They shattered windows of Jewish-owned buildings, stores and synagogues as they rampaged through Jewish districts in Germany.

The service included readings by Holocaust survivors and a newly commissioned choral work by Celia McDowell.

Patrick Allen managed the project and utilised his knowledge of room acoustics to overcome the extreme reverberation created within this challenging, yet spectacular, venue.
