Pre-Completion Testing... AIR PRESSURE

As part of the government’s pursuit for greater energy efficiency and the conservation of fuel and power, part L1A of the Building Regulations (which came into force in April 2006) stipulates that all new dwellings must demonstrate they are airtight to an agreed standard. In order to comply with the regulations, all newly built homes must undergo a mandatory Air Permeability test prior to occupation. Tests must be carried out by an approved tester registered with the British Institute of Non-Destructive Testing (BINDT).

Cass Allen Associates have members registered with the British Institute of Non-Destructive Testing and are accepted by Building Control bodies as being suitably qualified to carry out the formal air leakage and permeability testing and certification to the required ATTMA ‘TS1’ standard.

Our engineers provide valuable technical and practical advice to assist you in achieving the required standards. As our engineers are BINDT qualified this allows us to issue certificates of compliance which will be accepted by building control without their presence as evidence that the test meets the required standards set down in the regulations.

In addition to the on-site testing, our service includes the detailed calculation of the dwellings "air barrier envelope area" and all the necessary test preparation (eg temporary sealing of ventilation apertures etc), will be carried out by our engineers. We can also carry out smoke tests to help identify air leakage paths. We have the latest instrumentation calibrated to UKAS standards and software allowing fast and accurate recording of tests.
